FIRST WEEK @ST GORETTI'S
12 JUNE 2024- 15 JUNE 2024
Day 1 of Teaching Practice - June 12, 2024
Today marked a significant milestone in my B.Ed. journey as we commenced our second phase of practice teaching at St. Goretti's High School, Nalanchira. Our day began promptly at 8:45 am with an assembly in the headmistress's chamber, where our team leader Renjitha handed over the attendance register. The headmistress provided us with a comprehensive overview of our duties and expectations, and we were given a designated space in the auditorium for our activities. This phase of practice teaching is pivotal to our course, and I am eager to apply my learning and gain valuable teaching experience.
Entering Class 9.A for the first time as their teacher was surreal. The students were attentive and curious, and I felt an immediate connection with them. The first day was filled with introductions and setting expectations, both from my side and the students'. This marked the beginning of what I hope will be a transformative and enriching journey for both my students and me. I began by delivering my first lesson plan, introducing the unit "Hours and Years" and starting with the chapter "Half a Day" (paragraphs 1 and 2). The students seemed engaged and interested, boosting my confidence.

The day started with morning duty, arriving at the college at 8:30 am. As teacher trainees, we conducted the morning prayer. My scheduled class was during the second hour at 9.A, where I continued with "Half a Day" (paragraphs 3 to 5). The students were attentive, and the lesson flowed smoothly. Today, we had more substitution periods in the upper primary section than in high school. I had a class at the last period in Class 8C and another class at 9D during the sixth period. At 12:20 pm, I experienced "Kitchen Day" for the first time, providing a practical break from the classroom environment and a chance to interact with the students informally. I left the school at 4:45 pm.

I started the day with morning duty, helping conduct the prayer session. My teaching period was the fifth hour at 9.A, where I covered "Half a Day" (paragraphs 6 to 8). The students showed a good understanding of the material, which was encouraging. At 12:20 pm, I had kitchen duty again, which went more smoothly than the first day. Later, I had a substitution period in Class 7.A, providing an opportunity to interact with a different group of students and observe their classroom dynamics. I had a substitution class in 8E during the sixth hour. Today, I felt the full responsibility of a teacher, handling the entire day's disciplinary system. I encountered a child with special needs, who always tried to make her surroundings happy. This experience deeply impacted me, reinforcing the idea that teachers are indeed the second parents of their students.

Day 4 started with a morning prayer. I reached school at 8:30 am and marked the morning attendance, had morning line duty.I participated in the morning prayer. Today was busy with many substitution periods in Classes 6.B, 5.E, and 7.A. My main period in 9.A was the fifth hour, where I continued teaching "Half a Day" (paragraphs 9 to 11). The frequent substitutions allowed me to adapt to different class environments and manage various student behaviors, enhancing my teaching experience. Substitutions in Classes 6.A during the sixth and seventh hours involved interacting with students through games. The day was different as it was a Saturday, and the number of students was fewer.
